ELLLO is English Language Listening Laboratory Online, a virtual language lab to improve your English listening comprehension. Elllo.org is the brainchild of Todd Beuckens, an American English teacher living in Japan The main strength of the site is the variety of conversation, which are enriched with transcripts, vocabulary explanations and exercises and comprehension tests. The items on the site are divided into levels: high beginner, low / medium / high intermediate and advanced. The talks are very informal, participants speak with native and non-native accents and the selection of topics is extremely varied. There are dialogues, round table discussions with six people, videos and a news section that helps you prepare for standardized tests such as the TOEFL and TOIEC. The selections are short: about 2-3 minutes each. This week, for example, there are talks about a bicycle trip from Cambodia to Vietnam, long-distance love and men and shopping. As if this were not enough, the site has a collection of over 1400 archived activities involving 200 people from over 80 countries. The site attracts more than 12,000 visitors per day.
In conclusion, elllo.org is a good choice for those who want to sharpen their listening skills enjoyably and with plenty of variety.
